I hope this update finds all members well in these continuing challenging times?

As I stated in my last members update, the next few months will be one of the most financially challenging times our club has ever faced, and I am counting on every member to give us some financial stability.

Our fixed costs remain unchanged , we have had no commercial income from end of season dinners, Summer balls, weddings, christenings, or any other private bookings.

The latest from the RFU is that the second week in November may be the start date for level 7 rugby and below (that encompasses all of our teams and age groups), but it our intention to start Autumn training in the first week in September as normal.

That means we will have the club ready, catering staff in place, training kit, playing kit and first aid kit provided and the paid coaching staff and physios ready to go.

Currently, most of our sponsorship is also up for renewal in August 2020 and at this stage it is uncertain how many sponsors will renew given the current financial climate.

Membership is always our biggest income stream.  At the most recent committee meeting it was agreed not to increase membership fees and that we would encourage all members to renew their membership on time in August as normal.

WITH ALL OF YOUR SUPPORT WE CAN GET THROUGH THIS and maintain our club as one of the top clubs in Hampshire.

The benefits of taking your membership on time is that we can have your club ready to welcome you and individual teams back ready for the new season, you have to be a paid member to secure the chance to purchase international tickets and, most importantly, it gives the club the cash cushion that we will so desperately need.

Details of how to renew your membership through your GMS accounts will be cascaded by members email, on our website and across our social media platforms.

If there are members who think they might be able to go the extra mile with financial support for the club, we are about to launch a new 200 Club and Life Memberships are still available.

Additionally, if you as an individual or you know a business that might consider sponsoring the club in any form, we would be incredibly pleased to hear from you.

The committee is conscious that some members may have their own financial difficulties in these uncertain times.  We have always had a confidential hardship policy and this year is no different. Anyone, in that situation should speak confidentially to lead coaches or captains, who can escalate that to the club Secretary Ben Beavan.

For the information of all, the club AGM has been set for 19:00 on Monday 7 September 2020.

Should you have any questions for the sitting WRFC Committee, can you please make any specific enquiry via the contact section of the website.

Yours, in rugby
